Late Paleozoic paleomagnetic constraints on the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt

Abstract
The eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt comprises multiple continental blocks and accretionary terranes that were progressively assembled during subduction-accretion processes. However, reliable Devonian-Carboniferous paleomagnetic data capable of constraining its paleogeographic configuration remain scarce. Here we present new paleomagnetic data from Late Paleozoic sedimentary successions in NE China, including twelve sites from the Xing’an Accretionary Terrane and eight sites from the Jiamusi Block. Two stable characteristic remanent magnetizations (ChRMs) are isolated from the Early Devonian Huolongmen Formation (ca. 415-394 Ma) and the Early Carboniferous Beixing Formation (ca. 335 Ma), yielding paleolatitude ranges of 32.4-57.0°N and 33.5-49.8°N, respectively. The ChRM directions pass fold and/or reversal tests, indicating a primary origin. The rock magnetic analyses identify magnetite as the dominant carrier of the remanence. These results provide the first well-documented Devonian-Carboniferous paleomagnetic poles from Northeast China and constrain the paleogeographic configuration of the region during the Late Paleozoic, prior to the development of the NE China Orocline.
